The Decorative Arts of Women’s Coats in Qing Dynasty

Updated: 6/9/2017 4:11:54 PM

Abstract: Women’s gown-like coats represent an important dress form in the middle and later periods of Qing Dynasty. They are often decorated with exquisitely gorgeous patterns that are rich in content. Women’s coat with wave-cliff & peony patterns in azurite blue color is a treasure among the costumes in Qing Dynasty and a typical dress for noble women. The patterns and ornaments are vivid, auspicious, and wellproportioned and arranged. They exhibit not only the excellent sewing skill of women in the middle and later phases of Qing Dynasty, but also the artistic connotation of the patterns and the aesthetic and psychological appeal of women’s dress at that time.
