Effect of Sodium Periodate Oxidation on Adsorption Properties of Cotton Fiber-based Adsorbent

Updated: 2/18/2014 10:37:47 AM

Abstract: In this paper, a kind of adsorbent was prepared by grafting β-cyclodextrin and amino-terminated hyperbranched polymer after the alkalization of cotton fiber through epoxy chloropropane epoxidation and sodium periodate oxidation. The prepared adsorbent was characterized. The oxidation technology for cotton fiber was optimized according to adsorption experiments with model wastewater. The result indicated that the cotton fiber-based adsorbent has best adsorption capacity to Pb2+ and Congo red when the cotton fibers were oxidized with 12 g/L sodium periodate at 50 ℃ for 3 h. The maximum adsorption capacity to Pb2+ and Congo red can reach 65.7 mg/g and 223.7 mg/g respectively.
