The Evaluation of Carbon Footprint of Garment in the Abandonment Stage

Updated: 10/15/2013 12:00:00 AM

The evaluation of carbon footprint includes four aspects: country, enterprise (organization),product or service and individual. At present, the evaluation of carbon footprint is mainly based on the following international standards: the ISO14040/14044 (2006) -- principles and framework for life cycle assessment of International Organization for Standardization, the PAS2050:2008 -- requirements for assessing the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) of goods of British Standards Institution, the Japanese Technical Specification TS Q 0010 (2009) -- general principles for the assessment and labeling of carbon footprint of products and the ISO 14067 (2012) – requirements and guideline for quantification and communication of carbon footprint of products. Based on PAS 2050, this paper evaluated the carbon footprint of a pure cotton shirt at its abandonment stage by drawing process chart, defining system boundary, collecting data and calculating carbon footprint. The evaluation data in this paper are mainly based on the research results released by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) of UK.
