Abstract: This paper reviews a comprehensive study of fiber, fabric construction, reactive dye chemistries, and fixation dynamics to optimize wash and wear performance of a navy chino fabric. Promising initial laboratory results have been scaled up to production and the experimental fabric was compared to standard fabric in chino wearer trials for sensibility to multiple domestic wash cycles in activated detergents, colorfastness to perspiration and light, and the potential to form abrasion markings along crease lines.
Key words: chino fabric; domestic wash; wear; color fastness; cold pad-batch; reactive dye.
