Abstract: The paper introduces several methods that are used for the surface modification of UHMWPE (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) fiber, i.e. chemical modification, plasma treatment, corona discharge treatment, radiation-induced surface grafting, etc., with the modification principles, their effects and their applications in industrial scale are highlighted. It also points out the possible development direction of surface modification of UHMWPE fiber.
