The development of automotive textiles is closely bonded with the research and application of new fiber materials. Currently, synthetic fiber (such as PET, PA, PP, aramid and etc.) is the primary type applied on automotive textiles industry. However, carbon fiber, some natural fibers and novel bio-fibers are finding their way into the market along with the consumers’ burgeoning call for lightweight and eco-friendly greener materials. Application and development status of several major automotive fiber materials were introduced and the highlighted fields that require more attention in the future are also outlined in the paper.
