Abstract: In the first half of 2006, the textile industry in China maintained steady growth in terms of production, productivity and economic benefit; the fixed assets investment continued to move westwards and certain sectors made significant use of foreign investment. Meanwhile, textile exports grew steadily, and the exports to other foreign markets than EU and US markets accelerated. Moreover, the competence index of the textile and apparel industry hit new record and the apparel bearing local brands achieved higher added value. Based on the economic operation in the first half of this year, it is foreseen that the steady economic growth both at home and abroad will further push up the demand for textiles and apparel. So it is predicted that the textile economy will maintain steady and fast growth in the second half of 2006.
