Fig. 1 The Growth Rate of China’s Textile and Garment Exports in 2019
China’s textile and garment exports totaled US$ 246.88 billion in January-November, down 2.65% over the same period last year (in CNY-denominated terms, it grew 2.02% year-on-year). Among them, textile exports reached US$ 109.26 billion, maintaining the positive growth of the first three quarters, seeing year-on-year rises of 0.06% (in CNY-denominated terms, it grew 4.89% year-on-year). While garment exports were US$ 137.62 billion, down 4.69% year-on-year (in CNY-denominated terms, it decreased 0.14% year-on-year).
Throughout the year, the international environment facing China’s textile industry has become more complicated, and there has been greater pressure on garment exports. Especially since the Sino-U.S. Trade friction, the United States’ tariff increase has put greater pressure on the exports of Chinese apparel enterprises to the United States. For next year, the steady development of China’s textile and garment trade will still face challenges.
