CNTAC will Promote Cooperation with the Five Countries along the Mekong River

Recently, China National Textile and Apparel Council announced that they will promote cooperation with the textile and garment industry among the five countries along the Mekong River, including Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, so as to promote the deep integration of the textile industrial chain by strengthening trade, improving investment and establishing sound cooperation system.


Xu Yingxin, vice president of the China National Textile and Apparel Council, said that since the establishment of the cooperation mechanism, the foreign trade volume of textile and garment between China and the five countries along the Mekong River has achieved steady and rapid growth, and the scale of investment has continued to expand.


Xu Yingxin added that the import and export trade of textiles and apparel between China and the five countries along the Mekong River reached US$ 29.79 billion in 2018, accounting for 9.6% of China's total foreign trade volume of textile and apparel. With the developing export trade and the increasing importance of import trade, China's textile enterprises have been expanding their investment scale in these five countries along the Mekong River.


Through the cooperation of trade and investment, China and the five countries along the Mekong River gradually established a textile industry with complementary interactive characteristics, formed an efficient cooperation relationship in the entire garment processing industry chain. The industrial chain presents a deeply integrated development trend.


Xu Yingxin said that with the development of the textile industry chain of these five countries along the Mekong River, the cooperation with China's textile industry will be more diverse, and the cooperation in high-end areas such as colored spun yarn, dyeing and finishing will be expanded in the future. And these five countries along the Mekong River will also be one of the most important industrial layout choices for China's textile and apparel brands.


At the recent Belt and Road Textile Conference 2019—Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Textile and Apparel Summit held in Suzhou, China National Textile and Apparel Council and the Textile and Apparel Merchants Association of these five countries along the Mekong River Five unanimously agreed to establish a dialogue mechanism to jointly issue a joint statement on textile and garment industry cooperation, and further promote the textile and garment industry cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
