On a press conference held during 2017 China Chongqing Fashion Week, an official said that according to plan, in the coming 5-10 years, Chongqing will concentrate efforts on forging itself into the most influential textile and garment consumption center and trading center in the western part of China.

He said, at present, the pattern of global textile industry is changing quickly and China's textile industry is constantly upgrading, under such background, Chongqing textile and garment industry is quickening up the step of supply-side structural reform by focusing on improving development quality and efficiency and advocating the concepts of environment-friendly and innovation-driven development. According to the current situation of local textile and garment industry and its developing trend and characteristics, during the 13th "Five-year Plan" period (2016-2020), Chongqing textile and garment industry will develop"1+2+4", i.e. "one system", "two blocks" and "four characteristics".

"One system" means it will enhance the influence of the regional brand of Chongqing-made garment.

"Two blocks" refer to Chongqing-made garment consumption block and "Wan-Kai-Yun" advanced manufacturing block. The Chongqing-made garment consumption block will implement a fashion project called "1+10+100", i.e. enhancing the influence of one regional brand, 10 national well-known brands for medium- and high-end garment and 100 small garment firms. The "Wan-Kai-Yun" advanced manufacturing block is designed to promote the coordinated development of textile and garment industry in Wanzhou District, Kaizhou District and Yunyang County to take over the textile and garment processing capacity transferred from the eastern regions of China.

"Four characteristics" refer to two new growth potentials and two characteristic industries. The two new growth potentials are home-textiles and technical textiles, while the two characteristic industries refer to the grass linen industry in Rongchang and the silk industry in Qianjiang. The former will develop a cultural creation industry based on hand-woven grass linen and build a grass linen-characterized town to promote the development of grass linen industrial chain;while the latter will establish a development mode of "high-quality raw materials + manufacturing + brand" and cultivate a number of leading backbone enterprises to become a highlight in Chongqing garment industry chain.
