Following on from Repurposing and Redefining Sustainability, we focus on the growing desire of customers whose ethical values and attitudes are driving their brand recognition.
With ‘millennial’ consumers gravitating towards sustainable clothing and products more than fast fashion, there is an increase demand and need for clothing and products that have been manufactured in high quality sustainable materials.
Wool and Cashmere spinners represent the heritage of the knitwear raw material industry and the following exhibitors represent those who have combined the strength of their heritage with a concern for sustainability to innovate yarns and products that meet the changing needs of customers.
TOABO: A Japanese wool spinner specialising in Organic Wool with no exposure to chemicals such as pesticides or pest control, with a focus on the healthy nutrition of its wool livestock. TOABO is GOTS certified and ACO certified (Australian Certified Organic).
Toabo’s production uses non-mulesing wool, strictly controlled and fully traceable. The greasy wool is grown and sheared at a GOTS certified farm in Argentina.
XINAO’s tenet is “Caring for the wearer, the garment and the environment”. Their Merino Extrafine Wool is shrink-resistant treated with a new innovative technique known as the 3E process. Compared with traditional anti-shrinkage chemical treatment, the 3E-wool process only uses Oxygen to treat the wool, and does not use any chemicals regarded as toxic. Therefore no Absorbable Organic Halides (AOX) are produced during the 3E-wool treatment. The ECO range of machine knitting yarns for flatbed knitting are available in Nm 2/30’s, 2/36’s, and 2/48’s.
CONSINEE uses all natural yarns and environmentally safe dyes within their product ranges. With Oeko-tex standard 100 certification, Sira environmental management systems they offer high quality products to the market.
They have a beautiful range of yarns for SS including Kashgar. This particular item contains cashmere and silk. Silk is one of the earliest natural fibres that is luxurious, smooth, cooling in the summer and warming in the winter especially when combined with Cashmere.
ZHENXIN Wool Spinning uses the brand name THRIVE and introduces EVOLUTION, a 2/30 Nm-2/36-2/48 19,5 mic 100% Basolan wool that is non-Chlorine treated, therefore environmental friendly, meets the standards for baby clothing, GOTS and provides more whiteness in Basolan tops and more brightness in colours when dyed.
M.ORO supplies a line of natural colours cashmere yarns undyed, using only three colours: raw white, light grey and brown, selected from the best places of origin. The characteristics of the cashmere fibre is undamaged and the process is absolutely environmentally friendly, very popular in the higher-end market.
SUEDWOLLE Whilst celebrating 50 years of production with a strong focus on sustainability sudwolle developed a collection of organic qualities under the brand Biella yarn in 2015. The collection encompasses certified organic fibres whose production focuses strongly on growth without chemical fertilizers or pesticides from plants or animals. Their organic collection is available in eight qualities.
POLYACE is a Chinese spinning mill, offering smaller quantities for sampling and testing. Their new product named “Silk Zero Filament Yarn” is made of natural regenerated fibre that has all the advantages of the softness and colour effects of silk without the problem of being easily hooked, and is very economic compared to real silk.
Silk-Zero has also high printing saturation and is a new high-tech knitting yarn that is prized by consumers.
