In July, China’s exports of textiles and apparel once again saw double-digit decline despite the decline narrowed month-by-month in the second quarter.
Latest figures of the General Administration of Customs show that China’s exports of textiles and apparel dropped by 10.2% year-on-year in July to US$ 30.35 billion. The export of textiles dropped by 5.9% to US$ 9.51 billion, while that of apparel dropped by 12.4% to US$ 17.74 billion.
The expanded decline can be explained by on one hand the high base of comparison in same period of last year and on the other hand insufficient improvement of export environment at home and abroad and moreover, government’s stimulus policies on foreign trade need time to show practical effect. Considering that both China’s Export Leading Indicator and New Orders Index of China’s foreign trade declined in July, the prospects of textile and apparel exports in the third quarter is not optimistic.
In the first seven months of this year, China’s exports of textiles and apparel totaled US$ 155.62 billion, down 4.4% from a year earlier. The export of textiles dropped by 1.5% to US$ 62.42 billion, while the export of apparel dipped by 6.2% to US$ 93.2 billion.
