Dimensions — The theme for the upcoming trend directions at SPINEXPOTM Shanghai and New York
There is a general direction towards growth and 3 Dimensional forms, with surfaces and structures being the key elements to consider. New advancement in technical processes from 3D printing to innovative manufacturing methods and enhanced finishing are allowing the body form to be more considered and garments become sculptural and have a dimension of their own even without a form inside.
Yarns based in tradition of tweeds, marls and twists, but modernized through being soft, light and using unexpected colour combinations. Intense plush chenille, wools compacted through felting or stretch, new dyeing or printing techniques, as well as lustrous shine create a multi-dimensional feel of tactile layers.
New at SPINEXPO: SPINEXCLUSIVE – a more Couture oriented trend area
We are at a moment of changes, sociologically, economically, technologically, and in terms of lifestyle. Fashion always illustrates the world most pressing changes, and beauty standards are being redefined. To accompany this direction, the SPINEXPO fashion team has added up more segments to its already very sophisticated trend area.
With SPINACTIVE, which is a new research platform on activewear and the use of circular knitting techniques, it links with SPINEXPLORE that continues to highlight swatches developments associating various yarns from spinners’ collection. SPINACTIVE targets clothing that do more than make you look good; experimentation with LED, bonding, various new materials, research on shoes and socks are to be found.
A more couture targeted part has come to life with 6 independent stylists who worked with 18 spinning companies in partnership with one knitwear manufacturer using a specific knitting machine to produce capsule collections styled around the yarn. Meant to be the counter part of the innovation and more lifestyle direction of SPINACTIVE, SPINEXCLUSIVE targets a more sophisticated fashion approach where the textile chain is totally represented: fiber to yarn, yarn to knitwear, knitwear to new machinery, with one important coordinator: the designer.
Perino : a new fibre comes to life
Perino is an innovation by New Zealand yarn company Woolyarns. Developed in 1992, Perino has played a part in new Zealand conservation by productively using the fibre of non-native New Zealand Brushtail Possum; Since 2010, the range has grown from merino yarn blends to introduce cashmere and silk, and this more refined Brushtail Possum Down.
The pure downy undercoat fibre has a unique hoolow-core offering a world of firsts to the fashion industry. So soft, it flats like mist along the body’s horizon. So light, it creates volume without the weight. So warm, designers can be minimal with maximum impact.
Although the latest blends are new to the market, the New Zealand Brushtail Possum yarn has alreaady made its way to the international realm with Hermès-Paris featuring a Perino garment in their ready-to-wear women’s collection. Designer Kate Mischler is an advocate of the yarn, and uses Perino as the point of difference in her bespoke knitwear brand, Elka.
This Fall/Winter 2016/17 range is available in 59 colours of Forest, Wild, Smoke and Ice, aligning itself with the international upcoming trends.
Xinao Design Award
Xinao is a high-tech and innovative Zhejiang Province pilot enterprise. One of their research directions is about water absorption. Its independent research in controlling this aspects in the yarns collection brought fruitful results in technological innovation and includes special hydrophilic and hydrophobic and water repellent Merino yarns. They will also present 2/120-100% merino wool suitable for 11-14 gauges, non muslin, finer than cashmere.
Xinao is launching a Designer Contest among 9 designers working mostly for e.commerce. A panel of examiners will vote on site, among which Hong Kong PolyU, the Woolmark Company, China Academy of Art, Paula Cheng, Eachway, Youngor and JNBY. Their votes will constitute 70% of the final vote with additional 30% coming from SPINEXPO visitors’ onsite votes. The garments will be on display at a dedicated stand facing the main trend area.
