A sample survey conducted by National Cotton Market Monitoring System shows that by Feb. 2, the investigated enterprises have an average of 29.9 days of cotton inventory (including imported cotton arrived at port), an increase of 1.6 days month-on-month and a reduction of 7.1 days year-on-year. Based on relevant data, it is estimated that the nationwide cotton inventory of industries is about 661,000 tons, up 5.6% month-on-month and down 16.9% year-on-year. Fujian, Zhejiang and Sha'anxi provinces have higher inventory.
The survey on purchasing intention shows that in early February, 56% of the investigated enterprises plan to purchase raw materials, expanding 4 percentage points from the previous month but down 14 percentage points from a year earlier; 33% of the enterprises hold wait-and-see attitude toward purchasing, down 15 percentage points from January and up 3 percentage points year-on-year; and 11% of the enterprises are not going to purchase cotton, 11 percentage points higher than both this January and a year ago.
In early February of 2015, 94% of the investigated enterprises said they will maintain the current cotton blending ratio, 4 percentage points higher than the previous month and 6 points higher than a year ago; 6% of the enterprises will increase cotton blending ratio, 1 percentage point lower than January but 2 percentage points higher than same period of last year.
