Cotton Production Drops 2.2% in 2014

According to a survey on 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, China"s cotton planting area in 2014 shrunk by 2.9% to near 4.22 hectares, showed a contraction of 126,500 hectares compared to 2013, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Dec. 18.

The yield per unit area increased by 0.7% or 10.8 kg/hectare to 1,460.3 kg/hectare in 2014, the survey showed.

In 2014, the cotton production dropped by 2.2% from 2013 to 6.16 million tons, in which, near 60% or 3.677 million tons are produced in Xinjiang.
