Seizing new chance on the world market, China"s export of sewing machinery hit new record. Figures of the General Administration of the Customs show that the export in the first eight months of this year topped more than US$ 1.56 billion, up 9.26% year-on-year, maintained a steady year-on-year growing trend.
In the first quarter of this year, China"s export of sewing machinery fluctuated due to the holidays of Spring Festival. Since March, the increasing demand on the world market had been driving the exports to go up. From April to August, the monthly export maintained at more than US$ 200 million for five successive months and it even reached US$ 238 million in July, up 15.01% year-on-year, hitting the highest historical record. However, in August, the export dropped moderately by 7.30% to US$ 217 million.
Product-wise, in the first eight months of this year, the export of various sewing machines all registered year-on-year growth, in which, the export of industrial-purpose automatic sewing machine, common household sewing machine and single-head embroidery machine registered high growth rates.
The export of automatic sewing machine for industrial use saw significant growth. In January-August of this year, China exported 2.34 million sets of industrial sewing machines, which amounted to US$ 714 million, up 6.70% and 11.18% respectively. The export of automatic industrial sewing machines totaled 1.30 million sets and US$ 433 million, up 10.89% and 22.02% year-on-year, accounting for 55.63% of total export of industrial sewing machines in quantity term and 60.71% in value term. Particularly, the export of automatic flat sewing machine and automatic seaming machine for industrial use grew more than 30% in terms of both quantity and value, indicating further optimized structure of exported products.
Meanwhile, the export of clothing machinery dropped in quantity term but increased in value term and the export of cutting machinery covered increasing share. In January-August, China"s export of clothing machinery dropped moderately by 1.20% in quantity term to 499,000 sets but rose 16.22% in value term to US$ 141 million, in which, the export of ironing machine and pressing machine dropped significantly in terms of both quantity and value, while the export of stretching machine and cutting machine grew substantially and their share in total further expanded.
The export of spare parts maintained steady growth, with monthly export recorded the highest level in history. In the first eight months of this year, China"s export of spare parts for sewing machines totaled 42,498 tons or US$ 239 million, up 9.91% and 18.02% year-on-year.
It is anticipated that in the fourth quarter of 2014, China"s export of sewing machinery will continue to face both opportunities and challenges. From the macro environment point of view, the situation of global trade will keep improving, and the steady growth of domestic macro economy and growing effect of policies will offer strong support to the export of sewing machinery industry. Meanwhile, the industry will take the advantages of both domestic and international free-trade zones, and the regional and trans-regional bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation will offer more growth potential to the industry. However, there remain uncertainties in the recovery of global economy and the development of emerging economies will encounter more risks. Therefore, it is predicted that the export will maintain steady growth in the fourth quarter, but it may keep flat or drop slightly compared to the second and third quarters. At the same time, the industry will face increasing competition and narrowing margin.
