Yarn Production Surges 5.3% in January-February

China produced 5.15 million tons of yarn in the first two months of this year, up 5.3% year-on-year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).


Figures released by the General Administration of the Customs show that China imported 246,000 tons of cotton in February, a drop of 133,000 tons by 35% compared with same period of last year. The import of cotton totaled 539,000 tons in January-February, a drop of 297,000 tons by 35.5%. In 2013 cotton year, China’s cotton import totaled 1.66 million tons, down 24.6% year-on-year.


In February, the average price of carded 32s pure cotton yarn stood at CNY 25,538/ton, down CNY 23/ton by 0.1% from the previous month; the average price of polyester staple stood at CNY 9,403/ton, down CNY 171/ton by 1.8%.
