Updated: 3/26/2014 10:02:24 AM

According to the latest figures released by the General Administration of the Customs, the export of textiles and garment amounted to US$ 10.88 billion, down sharply 34% year-on-year. The export of textiles amounted to US$ 4.22 billion, down 28.4% and that of garment US$ 6.66 billion, down 37.1%.

In January-February, the export of textiles and garment totaled US$ 39.49 billion, down 4% year-on-year. The export of textiles and garment stood at US$ 14.75 billion and US$ 24.74 billion respectively, down 2.1% and 5.2%.

Although the year-on-year baseline is relatively high, the export of textiles and garment maintained fast growth in January of this year, hitting new historical record, with a growth rate higher than the country's total commodity export. Contrast to the high growth in January, the January-February export dropped by 4%. Compared with January, the February export dropped significantly due to the Chinese Spring Festival which fell on the end of January and beginning of February, hitting the bottom in 24 months. But the sharp decline showed in this monthly figure does not imply a continuous trend but rather the outcome of holiday effect.
