According to Ningbo Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, Ningbo has more than 3,000 garment producers of different sizes, who produce about 1.5 billion pieces of garment annually, accounting for more than 13% of the country´s total garment production. Ningbo has become the largest garment production base in China. A number of nationally famous brands have emerged. Many enterprises are among top 500 competitive enterprises of China´s textile and garment industry.

Ningbo boasts strong competence in garment production. It owns the largest suits and shirt production enterprises. Its production of garment, knitted goods and home-textiles takes the lead in China in terms of integrated production, total output, competitive advantages and market influence.

Last year, local above-scale textile and garment production enterprises (with annual prime business revenue more than CNY 20 million) realized a gross industrial output of CNY 124 billion, up 3.3% year-on-year. According to preliminary statistics, there were 204 above-scale garment producers, whose prime business revenue amounted to CNY 19.42 billion, up 9.06% year-on-year. In 2011, as the profit-earning ability of local garment enterprises kept improving, the total profit amounted to about CNY 1.99 billion, up 11.6% year-on-year.
