China imported 304900 tons of wool in 2008, down 8.3%, a reduction of nearly 30000 tons compared with 2007. The import comprised 234200 tons of crude wool, down 10.1% year-on-year; 41200 tons of clean wool, dropping 2.6%; 19300 tons of wool tops, down 7.1%; and 5024 tons of carbonized wool, with a decrease of 23.1% from a year-earlier level. Australia exported 175000 tons of wool to China in 2008, dropping 11.29% year-on-year; and New Zealand ranked the second with wool export to China totaled 40200 tons, up 16.19%; besides, 21500 tons were imported from Uruguay, down 12%; 10800 tons from North Africa and 10100 tons from Argentina, growing 24.4% and 11.93% respectively.
