China´s Total Foreign Trade down in January 2009 (03/10/2009)

Data from the General Administration of Customs showed that China’s total foreign trade was 141.8 billion US dollars in January 2009, down 29 percent over the same month of last year, with the trade surplus up 102 percent to 39.1 billion US dollars. January export value decreased 17.5 percent year-on-year to 90.45 billion US dollars while the import value fell by a much larger degree of 43.1 percent to 51.34 billion US dollars. In the first month, China exported 10.51 billion US dollars worth of clothing, up 5.7 percent year-on-year, and 2.91 billion dollars worth of shoes, up 10.6 percent.
