The State Council has examined and approved the adjustment and revitalization plan of the textile industry at the beginning of this year. The plan stresses the important role of the textile industry and its international competitive advantage, reflecting that the textile industry is not a restrictive industry, neither a sunset industry, said Mr. Du Yuzhou, the chairman of China National Textile and Garment Council.
Internationally competitive advantage of China textile industry still remains very obvious. Over the past 8 years, price growth of China´s textile exports has been maintained at 8 percent level, and driven by a 12 percent annual increase of labor productivity, textile enterprises realized a 5.8 percent annual growth of employed population. Workers of the textile industry at present have soared to over 20 million, of which about 80 percent are from rural areas.
According to Du, China textile industry will create two million new jobs when achieving three main goals within the next three years:
- To increase exports to obtain an annual growth rate of 8 percent;
- To boost production to maintain an annual industrial growth of 13 percent;
- To stimulate domestic clothing consumption to gain an annual growth rate of 20 percent.
