Nearly 70 percent of parents enjoy shopping for their children, according to Cotton Incorporated´s Lifestyle Monitor.

These savvy shoppers know that back-to-school shopping is more about updating children´s clothes with key pieces than starting from scratch.

Cotton Incorporated´s Product Trend Analyst, Rachel Crumbley has identified six fall trends that can easily be incorporated into the existing wardrobes of children. Parents and kids alike will agree that these back-to- school looks earn an A+.

The latest looks for Boys:

Layering - "Layering is more of a styling technique than a new trend and one that we´ve seen over the spring and summer with long- and short-sleeved tee shirts worn together," said Crumbley. "For fall, this look gets updated with fun, graphic cotton t-shirts under open Oxford shirts."

Military - The military look will play out in cotton jackets and caps that work easily with basics already in kids´ closets. Also, look for details such as brass buttons and cargo pockets on khakis when updating pants for fall.

Rugged - This trend is all about textures and patterns, from lumberjack-checked cotton flannel shirts to chunky cable knit sweaters. Nordic-inspired designs and stripes are the season´s easiest updates when it comes to warming up basic jeans and shirts for fall.

The latest looks for Girls:

Embellishments - "Inside every girl is an exotic princess waiting to emerge," said Crumbley. "Motifs from Eastern Europe are definitely influencing girls´ fashion this fall," Crumbley said that ribbons, beading and embellishments are top on the trend list. Rich velvets used in trims and accents add richness to basics such as cotton skirts.

Premium Denim - Just like mom, girls are all about premium denim. Adult brands such as True Religion have made pint-size versions of their popular jeans. Adding one or two key premium denim pieces to a basic wardrobe lend versatility to every little girl´s wardrobe.

Skirts & Dresses - "We are in the season of the dress," says Crumbley. This fall, dresses will be big for daytime, paired with patterned and knit tights. Cotton skirts of all lengths and silhouettes are perfect for pairing with leggings and tights and topping with ethnic-inspired tops.
