Updated: 6/3/2008 1:19:00 PM

When analyzing the impact of Wenchuan destructive earthquake on China’s national economy, the principal of National Bureau of Statistics said that though there were serious impacts on the economy of earthquake disaster areas, and as the affected areas accounted for relatively small proportion to the total economic volumes of country, the earthquake would not change the basic trend in rapid development of the national economy.

The principal said that Wenchuan earthquake not only caused enormous losses to people’s lives and property, but also had a more serious impact on the economy of disaster areas. However, it should be noted that economic aggregate of the disaster areas such as GDP, investment and consumption accounted for a small proportion to that of the whole country, which will not change the basic trend of the whole national economy that remained steady and rapid development on the whole.
