Akesu (Xinjiang Province) is a very important cotton-growing region located in the northern region of the Tarim Pendi Desert and is also the main ELS production area in China; however, cotton growth has been delayed due to early-season cool temperatures and excessive winds. Currently, the average height of the cotton plant is 18.1 centimeters, which is 3.8 centimeters below the average height a year ago. The euphylla on the main stalk is averaging 5.6 pieces, which is .52 pieces below last year at this time. It remains to be seen if this year´s crop can overcome these growth constraints.
