The Hebei cotton crop is developing well, boosted by above-normal moisture and excellent heat unit accumulation. Cotton plants are reported to be 13 to 18 centimeters in height with 5 to 8 leaves. Growers are actively managing the crop, spraying for cotton aphids, which have showed up in some fields, and hoeing fields to control weeds.

Heavy rain on May 27 boosted soil moisture levels in much of Jiangsu Province, benefiting recently transplanted cotton seedlings, which are now past the halfway point, as rapeseed and barley harvest are finished.
