Cotton Yarn Imports Reach 79,800 Tons in April (05/29/2008)

Updated: 5/29/2008 1:38:00 PM

During the month of April, China´s cotton yarn imports experienced a 14.51 percent year-on-year decline to 79,800 tons, while September 2007 through April 2008 yarn imports dropped 15.72 percent to 523,700 tons. A major downslide in domestic cotton yarn demand and a buildup in unsold yarn stocks have been the influencing factors behind this import reduction. However, cotton yarn exports were quite healthy during the month at 63,200 tons, climbing 3.54 percent from March and up 14.75 percent from the previous year. Cumulative September 2007 through April 2008 cotton yarn exports increased 1.94 percent from a year ago to 373,500 tons.
