Beijing, China, 15th May, 2008 - Oerlikon China today donated one million RMB to the China Red Cross in an effort to save life and help the needy victims in Sichuan.
The earthquake on May 12th, 2008, in Sichuan Province was the worst in three decades in China, with a death toll near 15,000 and leaving thousands of people homeless. After the earthquake, Oerlikon China immediately ensured the employee’s safety at their offices in the affected areas in Chengdu, Sichuan Province and Hanzhong, Shanxi Province. To date, thankfully all Oerlikon employees are left unharmed.
On May 15th, Oerlikon China donated one million RMB to the China Red Cross in order to provide immediate aid. Additionally, the company encouraged its 2,500 employees in China to voluntarily donate cash, material and blood.
Mr. Wang Jun, Oerlikon China President, said: ”It’s our accountability to save life and give our aids to victims caused by Sichuan Earthquake. Donation of one million RMB is our first step to undertake responsibility; we will take further measures depending on the rescue status.”
