The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in Xinjiang Province has released its estimates of 2007/08 cotton output, acreage and yield. The NDRC estimated 2007/08 acreage at 25.7 million mu and total output at 2.70 million tons. Average yields only reached 105.1 kilograms per mu (down from 2006/07 yields of 115.0 kilograms), and was the lowest level since 2004/05 when yields averaged 104.6 kilograms.
