China’s total industrial growth expanded to 18.5% in 2007, outpacing recent growth and up over 16.6% growth in 2006. Evidence continues to build that the growth in industrial production may be slower in 2008. China’s trade surplus in February narrowed 64% from year ago levels to US$8.56 billion, far below private estimates. The Jan/Feb trade surplus declined to 29% from a year ago to US$28 billion. The reduction came in part from a 35% surge in imports, lead by agriculture products.
