Dow Chemical Acquires ADC Joint Venture (03/07/2008)

Updated: 3/7/2008 3:46:00 PM

The Dow Chemical Co., Midland, Mich., has acquired from London-based Fiberweb plc full interest in the Advanced Design Concepts (ADC) joint venture it formed with Fiberweb in 2001.

ADC was created to develop new nonwovens technologies, such as elastic nonwovens, for use in apparel, medical and disposable hygiene products. As part of the joint venture, Fiberweb provided fabrication technology and Dow provided scientific expertise.

“Both companies strongly believe in the future potential of advanced nonwovens, in particular elastic and extensible structures,” said Jose Pina, global market director, health and hygiene, Dow. “After determining that this joint venture was no longer the ideal vehicle to pursue innovation in this space, Dow reached an agreement with Fiberweb to acquire their interests in the joint venture. Dow and Fiberweb will continue to pursue advanced nonwovens opportunities jointly and independently.”

Dow plans to incorporate its acquired interests into the Dow Global Technologies portfolio and align it with the health and hygiene market segment. The company also hopes to increase its elastics technology capabilities in combination with the extensive portfolio of advanced elastomers it has received as a result of the ADC acquisition.
