Cotton Planting Area may Grow Slightly in 2007(04/23/2007)

Since late March, Northwest, South of the Yangtze River and Southwest Region have started cotton planting. Other cotton-growing areas have prepared for overall cotton planting, once the climate is favorable.

Currently distribution of quality cotton seed subsidies is under progressed.

According to April forecast of China Cotton Association, the national cotton crop area in 2007 will reach 81.50 million mu, up 0.64 percent over last year, representing a slight increase compared with the forecast of the previous month, (one hectare=15 mu).

One-forth of areas will be benefited from quality cotton seed subsidies this year. The initiative will help to raise yield and improve cotton quality.
