As of the end of October, the cotton-ginning branch of the China Cotton Association and the National Bureau of Statistics report that 714 gins had installed HVI classing facilities, which represents an increase of 313 gins from a year ago. 518 of these gins have adopted the new technology outlined by the government initiative on reform. So far, 462,000 tons have been classed under these HVI facilities from the 2007/08 cotton crop, which represents an increase of 250 percent from last year on the same date.
