According to the National Bureau of Statistics China´s investment spending in the textile industry slumped 19.8 percent to 9.22 billion yuan (1.35 billion US dollars) in the first two months of this year, accounting for 0.9 percent of the nation´s overall investment of 1.03 trillion yuan, down 0.5 percentage points from the comparable period of last year. The amount put in garment, shoe and hat sectors grew by 6 percent to 6.21 billion yuan, covering 0.6 percent of the total, 0.1 percentage points lower than the figure registered in the same period of last year, while that for chemical fiber sector fell 7.8 percent to nearly 1.98 billion yuan, accounting for 0.2 percent of the country´s overall investment in January-February period, that was still 0.1 percentage points lower than last year.
