Statistics show that China produced 678,000 tons of dyestuffs and 185,000 tons of organic pigments in 2008, down 10.1 and 7.2 percent respectively over the year-earlier level. The import and export volume for dyestuffs and organic pigments totaled 296,600 tons and 175,000 tons, down 15.6 percent and 9.2 percent, respectively; trade volume for import and export of dyestuffs and organic pigments reached 1.65 billion and 1.14 billion US dollars. The overseas demand shrinks dramatically as the global financial crisis. China exported 236,000 tons of various kinds of dyestuffs in 2008, a sharp reduction of 48,000 tons or 17 percent lower than the precious year level, according to the customs data.
