Chinese customs data showed the country imported 270000 tons of cotton worth 360 million US dollars at an average import price of US$1319.2 per ton in the first quarter of 2009, which registered 48.9 percent volume decrease, 57.7 percent value decrease and 17.2 percent price decrease over the year-earlier level. The US was the biggest supplier of China´s imported cotton during the same period, as it sold 160000 tons of cotton to China with a year-on-year increase of 19.4 percent, accounting for 59.3 percent of the total. The cotton imports from Uzbekistan and India were respectively 51000 tons and 27000 tons during the first three months.
