Domestic Textile Industry Operating Situation as of January to May 2009 (07/27/2009)

The overall textile industry operating status remains stable in the first five months of 2009
Statistics from the SSB (State Statistics Bureau) indicates that the export value of overall textile industry totaled 60.4 billion dollars down by 11.13% and import value totaled 6.5 billion dollars down by 17.13% in the first five months of 2009. Fixed asset investment reached up to 96.9 billion yuan down by 5.78%. All statistics are all of year-on-year basis.

8.1% falloff of garment and accessory export from January to May
Export of garments and accessories amounted to 36.8 billion dollars from January to May, down by 8.1% year-on-year. As of May, the export value was 7.4 billion dollars maintaining pretty much on the same level with April.

20% uprise of Chemical fiber in May 2009
Chemical fiber output totaled 2.4 million tons in May witnessing a surprising 20.5% growth year-on-year,? among which man-made fiber saw a 28.9% uprising with total output 130 thousand tons and synthetic fiber saw a 17.4% uprising with total output 2.16 million tons, statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology indicated.

Chemical fiber industry seems not be so shivering currently as appears which however could not be cited as an adequate evidence that chemical fiber industry has successfully walked out the swampland. By contrast, the long-overdue structural contradiction problem existed in chemical fiber industry might be exacerbated by the economic recession and other deep-seated problems. It is of substantial importance for this sector to enhance the overall competence by appealing to advanced technologies to expedite the industry upgrade as well as the structural adjustment.
