The 6th China-Singapore Joint Council Meeting for Bilateral Cooperation, co-chaired by visiting Chinese Vice-Premier Wang Qishan and Singapore´s Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng, was held on August 24 in Singapore.
Wang Qishan spoke highly of the China-Singapore relations. He said that both countries had maintained frequent high-level visits, and cooperation in various fields had advanced in all-round way with good results. In international and regional affairs, the two sides had maintained close communication and cooperation. Wang stressed that Joint Council Meeting was an important cooperation mechanism between the two governments, which played a significant role in promoting the cooperation in all fields between the two countries. Under the international financial crisis, it was of great significance that China and Singapore actively explored new ways and areas of cooperation, worked together to meet challenges and achieved common development.
Wang Qishan said that Singapore had significant status in ASEAN. The strengthening of China-Singapore cooperation was not only conducive to bilateral relations and the respective development, but also in favor of promoting the China-ASEAN cooperation and the regional peace and prosperity. Next year is the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relation between the two countries. Wang hoped that the two sides would take this opportunity to further explore the potential and push the bilateral relation to a new level.
