Chinese vice President Xi Jinping who is paying a visit to Saint Petersburg, Russia, specially made field inspection in the Baltic Pearl Project invested by Chinese enterprise in Russia on March 22, and heard the introduction of the project unit and made an impromptu speech.

Xi said that the Baltic Pearl Project was a model project invested by Chinese enterprise in Russia. The project units including Shanghai Industry Investment Corporation (SIIT) have done much with certain achievements made under the support of relevant departments and commissions and financial institutes of the CPC Central Commission and Shanghai Municipal Party Commission and Government since the launch of the project, which was also recognized and supported by municipal government of Saint Petersburg and the government of Russian Federation, with good social effect created. Chinese President Hu Jintao earnestly expected to build the Baltic Pearl Project into "one first-classic project, strategic platform and cooperation model" while inspecting the project.

On carrying out and implementing the instruction spirit of Chinese President Hu Jintao, Xi pointed out three requirements: firstly, to consolidate and develop Sino-Russian strategic and coordinated partnership with practical actions. Secondly, to form a cohesive force and join hands to open up the new working situation of "going abroad". And thirdly, to seek truth from facts, keep pace with time and deeply study how to grasp the progress of development to realize capital balance, prevent and dodge risks.

The SIIT leader, on behalf of all staff and its international partners, sincerely appreciated Xi´ s special visit to the project despite his busy affairs, and stated SIIT would carefully study and comprehend Xi´ s instructions in the future development of the project Proceed from the overall situation that services for the state development and promotes Sino-Russia cooperation, and work hard so as to make the Baltic Pearl Project a real best model in promoting Sino-Russia friendly cooperation.
