Technical Textiles Undergo Development Upsurge and Gains More Industry Proportion (04/20/2010)

As a new group member of textile industry, China´s technical textiles industry has been witnessing skyrocketed development in recent years. In the year 1988, overall fiber consumption for China´s technical textiles was merely 530 thousand tons. Take nonwovens for instance, overall nonwovens output of above-scale companies for the first eight months of 2009 reached 813.8 thousand tons, rose by 25.86% as compared with the precedent year. Also in the same period, fixed asset investment (investment value over five million RMB) of technical textiles industry accumulated up to 4.337 billion RMB, rose by 30.38% year-on-year.

The development of technical textiles reflected the innovation progress of China´s textile industry. In the year 1978, per capita fiber consumption was merely 2.88 kg, accounted only for 40% of averaged world level. In 2007, this number climbed up to 14.6 kg which is 34% higher than averaged world level. According to the statistics unveiled by the Statistics Center of China National Textile and Apparel Council, 100 million RMB output of textile industry in the year 2002 required 810 of workforce, but now only requires 290. Innovation becomes the major impetus propelling China textile industry.
