It is inarguable that China textile industry has made certain progress in energy saving and emission reduction. But that can hardly be called enough. Stricter standards has already been rolled out by the central and provincial government along with the rapid growth of China textile industry and the expansion of company scale. According to a recent survey conducted by China Textile Economic Research Center, overall energy consumption of China textile industry accounted for as much as 4.3% of national energy consumption. Water intake of above-scale textile companies accounted for 8.5% of overall national industry water intake. The discharge of waste water accounted for 10% of national total, in which 80% of the sewage is discharged by dyeing and printing industry and only less than 10% is recycled. Most of the textile companies invested insufficient fund to energy saving and emission reduction and the adoption of advanced equipments was proportionally low. The 12th Five Year Plan of China textile industry on cleaner production will soon be rolled out. Although textile industry is not listed as a severely polluting industry, the obligation to bring down the influence to the environment under the low-carbon economy should be shouldered.
