Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Waterless Dyeing Hailed Major Breakthrough (07/29/2010)

Updated: 7/29/2010 9:23:00 AM

A major breakthrough of supercritical carbon dioxide waterless dyeing technology has been made recently by a key textile laboratory in Liaoning province. The program has successfully passed the technology appraisal by the Department of Science and Technology of Liaoning province and accredited as "international advanced level".

The fabric color fastness to rubbing could reach level 4 and the fastness to laundry could reach level 5 after being dyed with supercritical carbon dioxide waterless dyeing method, which completely complies with the international eco-friendly textile standards and GB18401-2003.

Dyestuff and carbon dioxide could be recycled, both water and chemical agents are not needed. Traditional water dyeing method led to severe environment contamination, high energy consumption, high water intake while supercritical carbon dioxide waterless dyeing serves as a fundamental solution to the traditional dyeing method. A cleaner production could easily be achieved.

According to the appraisal experts, widespread use of supercritical carbon dioxide waterless dyeing could help to save 1 ~ 2 billion cubic meters of water annually.
