According to the latest statistics from China´s General Administration of Customs, China has imported 96,000 tons of cotton in October, which plunged by over 52 percent as compared from the precedent month and 19 percent year-on-year. Average import price has increased by US $ 2,131 per ton which rose by US $ 69 as compared with last month. USA cotton accounted for less than 30 percent of imported cotton.

In aggregate, China has imported 2.25 million tons of cotton over the first ten months of 2010, rising by 88 percent year-on-year. The first two quarters of 2010 has seen 296,000 tons of cotton imported, rising by 34.5 percent year-on-year.

China´s cotton output may drop 5.5 percent this year after low-temperatures and rain-affected planting and development of the crops, according to a report by state researcher Cncotton.com.

Production may fall to 6.36 million metric tons as planted area and yield fell 1.1 percent and 4.4 percent, respectively, from last year, according to the report.
