It is reported that up to now CNY 2.5 billion of infrastructure fund within the Central Budget has been invested in the quality cotton project for the 12th Five-year Plan period (2011-2015) in Xinjiang. The total planned investment is CNY 1.41 billion, which will be used for setting up one platform for developing new planting resources and breeding R & D, 14 pilot stations for variety selection and introducing improved varieties, about 20,000 hectares of land for breeding improved varieties and 9 improved variety processing lines. Xinjiang quality cotton project has been in the list of state-supported agriculture projects for 3 Five-year Plan periods since 1991.
