In 2011, the production of sewing machine in China increased by 6.9% year-on-year to reach 17.06 million sets, according to China Sewing Machine Association.

The production of industrial sewing machine rose 10.7% to reach 9.68 million sets, while household sewing machine rose 2.9% to reach 7.38 million sets. Industrial sewing machines include 50,000 sets of electronic embroidery machines, up 11.1% year-on-year.

The export of sewing machine amounted to US$ 2 billion, up 24.2%.

There are 226 major sewing machine manufacturers (each with annual sales up to CNY 20 million). Their sales income rose 19.8% but profit dropped 1.4% due to sluggish market in the second-half year. 90 enterprises operated in deficit.
