China to Add 11.5 Million Tons of PTA Production Capacity in 2012 (02/21/2012)

According to ICIS, the PTA production capacity in Asia will increase 26% in 2012, while the growth in 2011 is 13%. The new PTA production capacity in 2012 will all come from China, with an expected 11.5 million tons, including 6 newly-installed facilities and one reformed based on existing facility.

Zhejiang Far East Petrochemical Co., Ltd. is building a new PTA facility in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province with an annual production of 1.4 million tons, which is scheduled to run into operation in March. By then, the company´s PTA production capacity will reach 3.2 millions/year.

BP´s Zhuhai Company is renovating an existing PTA facility in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province to expand the production capacity from the present 900,000 tons/year to 1.1 million tons/year. After the renovation, BP will have a total PTA production capacity of 1.6 million tons/year in China and 7.45 million tons/year worldwide.

Jiaxing Petrochemical Co., Ltd. under Tongkun Group is planning to launch a new PTA facility with annual production capacity of 1.5 million tons in the second quarter of this year.

Zhejiang Yisheng Petrochemical Co., Ltd. is planning to initiate another new PTA facility with annual production capacity of 2 million tons in Hainan Province. After this facility runs into operation, the company will have a total PTA production capacity of 7.5 million tons and become the largest PTA producer in the world.

Xianglu Petrochemical will start its new PTA facility with annual production capacity of 2 million tons in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province in the third quarter of this year. By then, the company will have a total capacity of 3.65 million tons/year and become the second largest PTA producer in China following Xiangsheng Petrochemical. At present, the company has a PTA facility of 1.65 million tons/year in Xiamen, Fujian Province.

Hengli Group plans to start its two new PTA facilities in Dalian, Liaoning Province in the third quarter of this year. The two facilities have a total capacity of 4.4 million tons/year. The first one is scheduled to run into operation in July and the other in September or October.
