Cotton Output in Xinjiang Reached 2.6 million tons in 2010 (01/30/2011)

According to the statistics released by the Agricultural Department of Xinjiang Autonomous Region, the cotton output of Xinjiang in the year 2010 has reached up to 2.6 million tons, which accounts for around 40 percent of China´s overall output and 11 percent of world total. Benefited from the cotton price surge all across the board in 2010, Xinjiang´s cotton industry hailed substantial revenue increase.

Xinjiang is naturally advantageous in terms of cotton growing. Amongst the 16 million acres of arable lands, cotton plantation accounts for nearly 4 million acres. After years of consistent development, cotton industry is becoming one of the pillared industries supporting the economic development of Xinjiang.
