Henan 2007 Cotton Production Down 15 Percent (03/03/2008)

Henan´s Bureau of Statistics reported that the official cotton production number for 2007 had reached 650,000 tons, down approximately 15 percent from 2006’s 762,000 tons. Cotton acreage for 2007 was estimated to be 700,000 ha, which was down 36,100 ha from 2006. Equally important was the grain numbers offered. In 2007, Henan planted 9.5 million hectare of grain which yielded more than 52 million tons of grain, up 2.6 percent year-on-year. Henan is the third largest producer of cotton in China, behind Xinjiang and Shandong.
